Sorry for the last, rather rushed post. I’d just had time to install the plugin, run off some itty bitty reviews and write a link to the page (of film ratings & reviews) when dinner was ready. Hopefully I’ll manage to complete this blog before then!
Having read about a recent event that happened to one of my affiliates, I started thinking about freedom of speech on the internet. Surely I should be free to talk as I wish? Yet, if someone was being directly offencive, we would be up in arms. However, they may state that they are just airing their beliefs, however controversial they may be. So where does one draw the line? Here, I have a level of anonymity, so in theory I can talk freely about well, anything! But I don’t. So maybe the constrictions don’t come from others, but from ourselves. Do we subconsciously censor what we say for fear of reprimand? Oh, I don’t know. I guess I’ll have to think on it more, research examples such as Dooce and write an article or something on it. That way you’ll only have to read my waffle by choice as opposed to being exposed to it during my blog!
Just a real quick post to let you know about this page, which lists all the films I’ve seen recently, their ratings and a little review. I plan to write in more depth later but I must go for dinner or it’ll be in the dog!
Hurrah! This weekend has a Bank Holiday Monday tagged on the end meaning three days of relief from the workhouse and best of all a nap! For some reason I’ve been extra tired this week (I think it’s associated with getting up at 7.00am last weekend as I couldn’t sleep), so I’m hoping to catch up to make me slightly less dead-looking and alleviate my aches and pains (somehow sprained my neck in high jump without ever getting over the pole).
Sadly there seems to be one thing determined to prevent all this: revision. Well, that and an English essay on Macbeth. To keep me entertained however (I am easily amused), I bought this adorable little A5 folder to do all my revision. Ignoring all reasonable comments on the potential impracticality of pint-sized revision notes, I’ve started listing out science modules, hole punching exam timetable etc. They’re only little end of year exams, but I thought I better start now in earnest, so we’ll see how it goes.
A bit of an updates frenzy tonight. Well, frenzy might be a slight exaggeration, but a bit more than usual!
Firstly, Miriam is my lovely new affiliate. Having had her wallpapers on my desktop, I can vouch for her creativity, so I snapped up the oppourtunity to be connected to her new blogging venture! <3
I’ve been planning (as you may remember) some article style things. Mainly for the reason that I don’t believe myself knowledgeable to offer detailed tutorials on much, but I still wish to write my opinions/tips on the odd thing or two. So my first offering in this department is a little summary of my thoughts on Iframes. I’d love to hear your thoughts and am thinking of enabling comments on such warblings.
Lastly, I’ve been feeling rather fruity. Well, maybe not, but I did pixel a fruit bowl:
Now I’m off to correct the mistake of not having spell checked my Iframes article…oh dear!
This is my 50th blog since I upgraded to Wordpress. Wow. Sounds so many when you put it like that! To celebrate I ought to write something spectacular and exciting. Sadly, you’ll have to put up with this.
This weekend I’ve been working on a theatre website design for my ICT class which was quite fun, in a geeky kind of way. Whenever we have to make websites in class the teacher always suggests Word/Publisher/PowerPoint she kindly adds “if anyone is mad enough to want to do it in HTML, feel free”. Haha - that’s me!
I’m currently writing this whilst half-watching the sitcom My Family. It’s one of those things that isn’t hilarious, but is a comfortable Sunday evening comedy. Anyway, must go and eat dinner!
Maybe I’m just foolish for not noticing this feature on wordpress before, or maybe I’m just foolish for mentioning my somewhat dishonest blogging trick, however, the last time I blogged I didn’t blog! Sounds odd enough, but I wrote that blog on Sunday and set it to post it on Tuesday. Now, am I the only person who didn’t know wordpress would do that before? Probably, but it is damn handy and will hopefully make my blogging a bit less erratic and all-at-once-when-I-find-the-time!
I’m in the process of working out the best plan of action (I’m an disorganised organisational freak) for doing all the things I mentioned in the previous blog, so if anyone has any ideas of things they’d like to see or suggestions of how to go about doing, well, anything (!), just say.
During the regular ponder of what to blog, I thought the best idea might indeed be my ideas! Over the past few days I’ve been thinking about where Party-Truffle.net is heading and what the stepping stones to get there are. I thought I’d share them with you in hope of getting some feedback and maybe further suggestions.
Vanity first, Party Truffle’s design is probably unpredictable. Hopefully it will improve and become slightly slicker with a tad more planned elegance as opposed to whatever pops into my head and tumbles onto my tablet!
Content-wise I’m hoping to spruce things up. I find the “reads” are probably a bit unimaginative, if very entertaining and am thinking of writing some helpful articles and guides to replace them. The tutorialsare is looking a bit lonely so maybe I can rectify that. However I do sometimes doubt my own position to give lessons on things when I am constantly learning, so maybe some pointers in the right direction would be better. Wordpress themes are another thing I’m interested in offering, altough they may take that bit longer!
As for the blog? Well it’s likely to continue rambling on at it’s usual pace, but maybe I’ll learn to be a bit more concise…(I’m suppressing the urge to shout “NEVER!!!”)…
School has begun once again (*strike up funeral march*) - what joy! Never mind, just 12 more weeks of it (with a one week interval) until the summer holidays and then starting my GCSEs. No more Geography, Food Tech, one less sport lesson - true joy!
I thought now would be a suitable time to discuss what must be one of the greatest things to happen to Latin since…since…anything really. Doctor Who. Yes, you heard read correctly, because last night’s Doctor Who (me being one of these sad people who watch such things) was based in ancient Pompeii.
Anyone who has suffered the pain of the Cambridge Latin Text Books will be delighted to know that the main characters in the episode were straight out of Cambridge Latin Book 1 (Caecilius, Metella and Quintus)! Oh, how Monday’s lesson will be improved. Yes, label me ultimate geek, but the doctor’s last comment, something like “They’ll remember this event, thousands of years in the future, they’ll remember you.” (addressed to Caecilius and co.) just must have been written by someone who had been through the ordeal of Latin lessons! Also, if you were wondering, non sum pisces… Vah! Denuone latine loquebar? Me ineptum. Interdum modo elabitur.
